 Greece Information and Photos

YASU!! We are so glad that you are interested in coming to our vibrant country.

Greece boasts an unrivalled legacy. But don’t expect your visit here to be only a sober study of the ancient world. The Greek propensity for partying dates back thousands of years to the God of Wine, Dionysus. One of the main traditions is to have a spirited time (kefi) with your friends (paraia). Greece, as part of the EU is a country of immense history and diverse cultures influenced by its location at the junction between the East and the West.

In the viewpoint of most, Greece is hailed by many as the “cradle Scenic St Maartenof western civilization” and is where art became inseparable from life. This is where the foundation of democracy, freedom of speech, the Olympics, medicine, philosophy, and drama were founded. In one day, you can step back 2,500 years as you walk through the Acropolis with its commanding view. You’ll witness the architectural marvel, the Parthenon, and the oldest theatre in the world, the Theatre of Dionysus. You can drive to Cape Sounion and witness the Temple of Poseidon or see the Temple of Olympian Zeus (700 years in the building). Additionally, you can see the Olympic Stadium and/or Hadrian’s Arch which separated the Greek from the Roman sides of Athens in ancient days. No trip is finished without a trip to the “neighborhood of the Gods”, Plaka. Your senses will come alive.

Athens takes its name from the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, Athena. It’s exciting to be here in historic Athens to witness why it was the leading city of the world in the 1st millennium B.C. and has been continuously inhabited for the last 3,000 years. (Interesting to know that the size of ancient Athens in 500 B.C., during the Golden Age of Enlightenment, was only about 2 kilometers from east to west and slightly less from north to south, yet housed 1,000,000 in population).

The Greek people-weather-cuisine

Greek Lunch of Tour of PoseidonGreeks are passionate and proud about their motherland from it’s traditions, culture and heritage to the music and food. Speaking of food, the Greek cuisine is world famous for it’s freshness, simplicity and the great taste. Try it. You’ll be eating the “original” Mediterranean diet. After all, the word Epicurean and the first cook book came from Greece in 300 B.C. The Greek tapestry of character is from the blending of the influences from countries such as Italy, Turkey, Persia and Arabia. The weather is equally diverse, as it can be as hot as 110 F in the summer and in the winter down to 35 F. No matter what you are wearing, bring along comfortable walking shoes and, of course, a camera for Athens is a photographers’ dream.

NOTES of Interest:

**Most places only take cash, not your credit card. Tips are usually included in bills.
Greeks think it’s rude to rush you with a bill at a restaurant so you’ll have to ask for it.
*Greek men are very much into their soccer games. The Greeks adore children.
*227 out of the 2,000 Greek islands are inhabited. Only 78 islands have more than l00 people living on them. Sixty (60%) of hotels in Greece are found on the islands.
* Athens local time is 2 hours ahead of England, 7 ahead of N.Y. and l0 ahead of California.

Greece is situated between Italy and Turkey and is bordered by the gorgeous Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas. It is about the size of England or the state of New York. The population in 2007 was approximately 11,000,000 people. Athens, as well as each island, is a vacation awaiting you filled with archeological sites, great food, gorgeous nature, history, traditions, music and great strong Greek characters all showcasing 4,000 + years of recorded history.

In one day you can only “sample” the glory that was and is Athens, so you’ll have to plan to come back and let us show you real Greek hospitality for your extended stay. The islands are waiting for you.
