This
fantastic private tour was created for discerning
families and groups such as large or small church groups, Christian youth groups, students of
Apostle Paul and the Bible, religious history seminars, and anyone
serious about the biblical importance of Athens. It's intimate and
personal. On this tour you will walk in the footsteps of Apostle Paul, the
“apostle of nations”. Everything you see will be explained in light of
its connection to, and context with, the creation and formation of the
Christian Religion. Visit the exciting remains of the Ancient Agora and
Mars Hill, places in which Apostle Paul walked and gave speeches while
visiting Athens during his 2nd missionary journey (49-52 AD). We then
will walk up to the “crowning glory” of Athens, the Acropolis,
dramatically perched 200 feet above the city of Athens. You’ll be able
to explore one of the most famous “architectural wonders of
the
world”, the Parthenon. Of course, your licensed tour guide will be a
treasure trove of historical information during the whole day as they
are educated in religion, Greek and Byzantine history, archaeology, and
art. All of Athens is a photo opportunity so bring plenty of film for
the City Tour and picturesque cobbled-stoned Plaka, “neighborhood of the
Gods”. The area of Plaka is a real kaleidoscope of colors, characters
and history. Do what people have done for 2,500 years, shop until they
drop and dine on Greek food, the “original” Mediterranean diet. Have the

HIGHLIGHTS: Walking up to the majestic Acropolis, you’ll see the “most
ancient theatre in the world”,
the Theatre of Dionysus where legendary poets, Sophocles and Euripides,
premiered their plays in the 5th century B.C. You’ll be
shown
the most “holy site of the Acropolis”, the Erechtheion, where the
Goddess Athena planted the olive tree which subsequently became the
country’s symbol and the world’s acknowledged token of peace.
Below the Acropolis is the sanctuary of the Ancient Agora which is like
being in a time machine taking you back 2,500 years. This profound place
in history was the economic, philosophic and political centre of ancient
Athens. It was here that Apostle Paul met the Epicureans and the Stoic
Philosophers (Acts17:17-18). The Temple of Hephestus built in 460-415
B.C. (best preserved temple of antiquity) and also the Stoa of Attalos
(rebuilt like the original, now housing a museum) will be visited.
You’ll be able to walk on Mars Hill where Apostle Paul delivered his
historic sermon about the unknown god. (Acts 17:15-34.)
Thinking of lunch? OK, we’ll walk to the exciting Plaka, “a must do” in
Athens,
where you’ll have free time for lunch, shopping and taking photos. This
is an enchanting cobble-stoned, flower terraced labyrinth of tiny
streets filled with ancient ruins, tavernas, Byzantine cathedrals and
fantastic shopping stalls.
Next, as we start to head back to the ship, your guide will point out
many historical and educational highlights on the City Tour. You will
pass masterpieces of antiquity such as the mammoth Temple of Olympian
Zeus (700 years in the making and ranking amongst “the biggest Temples
in Antiquity”), Hadrian’s Arch, the Panatheniakon Stadium (birthplace of
Olympics), the Parliament House with the traditionally uniformed guards,
the National Library and so much more.
Lastly, you will arrive with time to spare to reflect on your “Walk in
the Footsteps of Apostle Paul”.
